Lesson 2: SAVED TO SHOW FORTH

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Peter 2:9–17
MEMORY VERSE: 1 Peter 2:21
LESSON AIM: To understand our calling and responsibility as believers.

INTRODUCTION

A knowledge of your position in the Lord is a necessary tool for you to make an impact on the sand of life. No one can come unto Jesus Christ unless the Father draws him/her (John 6:44). You are building your life on Jesus Christ, the rock (Ephesians 2:20). This lesson helps us understand why God has called us and what is expected of us.

LESSON OUTLINE

  1. Called Out of Darkness
  2. Called Unto Righteousness

LESSON CONTENT

  1. CALLED OUT OF DARKNESS
Jesus Christ came as light so believers will not remain in darkness (John 12:46). He is the light of the world (John 9:5). Though light came, many loved darkness because of evil deeds (John 3:19). Believers are called light (Matthew 5:14) and are born again (John 3:3; 1 Peter 1:23). God has chosen us to be different and belong to Him (Isaiah 43:20–21).
  2. CALLED UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS
Believers are called to show forth God’s glory and live differently. We must abstain from fleshly lusts (1 Peter 2:11), pursue righteousness (1 Timothy 6:11), and live holy lives. We are citizens of heaven and must not conform to the world. Our lifestyle must reflect Christ.

    We must also:
    – Live honestly before all men
    – Endure persecution for doing good
    – Obey authorities (Titus 3:1)
    – Honor all men and love others (1 Peter 2:17)

CONCLUSION

Christians are called out of darkness into God’s marvelous light. We are to live righteously so others can see Christ in us.
