Lesson 1: THANKSGIVING BY CHOICE
BIBLE TEXT: Psalm 95:1–11
MEMORY VERSE: 1 Thessalonians 5:18
LESSON AIM: To understand thanksgiving as a lifestyle and a conscious choice.
INTRODUCTION
God created us for His pleasure and expects every part of our body to praise Him. King David called all that is within him to bless the Lord (Psalm 103:1). It is therefore God’s will for believers to worship Him (Psalm 95:6). This lesson highlights the importance of developing a heart of gratitude rather than an attitude of entitlement.
LESSON OUTLINE
- God is the Source
II. It is My Choice
III. Benefits of Thanksgiving
LESSON CONTENT
- GOD IS THE SOURCE
God is the source of all things (Psalm 24:1–2). Even our achievements come from abilities given by Him (Deuteronomy 8:18; James 1:17).
If we fail to acknowledge God:
– It leads to conflict with God (Luke 12:15)
– It creates fear and insecurity (Psalm 27:1)
– It results in ingratitude (Luke 12:16–20) - IT IS MY CHOICE
Thankful people:
– Focus on positives
– Turn negatives into positives (Romans 8:28)
– Appreciate what they have
– Recognize God’s hand in all situations
– Understand that God remains unchanged regardless of circumstances
III. BENEFITS OF THANKSGIVING
– Answered prayers (John 11:41–44)
– Multiplication (Mark 8:6–8)
– Deliverance (Acts 16:25–26)
– Peace and joy (Philippians 4:6–7)
– Divine presence (Psalm 22:3)
– Restoration (Luke 17:16–19)
– Victory (2 Chronicles 20:21–23)
CONCLUSION
Thanksgiving should be a daily lifestyle, not occasional. Counting our blessings reminds us of God’s goodness and helps us remain grateful.
