Lesson 3: A New Creation
BIBLE TEXT: Matthew 16:13–17
MEMORY VERSE: 2 Corinthians 5:17
LESSON AIM: To understand our identity as new creations in Christ.
INTRODUCTION
Every true child of God must be able to answer the question ‘who are you?’ clearly, with confidence and full conviction. It is important that we are clear about our identity because knowing who you are makes a difference in your life. Every child of God must be able to declare boldly that ‘I am a child of God,’ and live in a way that reflects that identity.
LESSON OUTLINE
- New Creation
- II. The Changes
LESSON CONTENT
- NEW CREATION
A believer becomes a new child in Christ (John 3:1–7). You are new, refreshed, regenerated, and recreated in Christ. You are no longer what you used to be. You were once dead to God but are now alive in Him (Ephesians 5:8; Galatians 1:15–16).
Your past sins have been forgiven (1 John 1:7), and your records are wiped away (Jeremiah 50:20; Romans 4:7–8). You are now born again and cleansed by the blood of Jesus.
You are not of this world (John 17:15–16). You are a stranger and pilgrim here (1 Peter 2:11; Hebrews 11:13). Christ lives in you, and you are passing through the world without conforming to it. - THE CHANGES
Your name has changed spiritually (Revelation 2:17). You now belong to God and may reflect that change even outwardly.
Your focus and goal have changed—you now pursue eternal life (Colossians 3:1–3; Philippians 3:8–14).
Your lifestyle has changed (Galatians 2:20; Romans 12:1–2). You now live differently, reflecting Christ in your daily conduct. Your actions must align with your identity as a new creation.
CONCLUSION
Every Christian must be confident of who they are in Christ and be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks. Be bold and confident in declaring your identity in Christ.
