Lesson 46: The Blessings of Personal Discipline – Part 2

INTRODUCTION: In the last study we listed many subtle temptations that Satan may want to bring our ways as baits to lure us to hell. We called them our enemies and that we need the grace and power of Jesus Christ to overcome them. We also stated that we too have a part to play and that is personal discipline. This week, we want to consider four (4) main reasons why we need personal discipline.

1. The first reason is for the Lord’s sake – Matt. 6:18, Luke 1:15, Acts 13:2, Romans 6:11-14, Romans 13:14.

2. The second reason why we need personal discipline is for the sake of Truth and Divine principles – Luke 14:26-33, Romans 12:9, Galatians 5:16-18, I Timothy 3:9.

3. The third reason why we need personal discipline is for the sake of others, Romans 12:10, Romans 14:21, I Cor.10:31-33, Phil. 2:4.

4. The fourth reason why we need personal discipline for the sake of one’s own eternal security – Matt. 16:24-26, Luke 16:9, I Cor. 9:24-27.

So, in order to walk with the Lord adequately, in order to uphold the truth, in order to maintain a healthy Christian relationship with others and in order to reach heaven at last, we need personal discipline of the highest type. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ abound to us, Amen.
