Lesson 87: Curses and Blessings – Part 1

INTRODUCTION: In this study on curses and blessings we intend to answer such questions as what are the various sources of curses and blessings, what causes them, what are the signs that a curse may be at work, how can we deal with curses, etc. May the Lord Himself teach us and bless us mightily, Amen.

1) CURSES COME FROM VARIOUS SOURCES: 
there are various sources of curses. It could be from God Himself or from a man of God on behalf of God. Other sources could be a man who has positional authority over you, e.g. a husband, or a man on behalf of the devil. Also, curses could be self imposed – Gen.3:14-19, Gen.4:9-12, Joshua 6:23, I Kings 16:34, Judges 5:23, Gen.31:19, 20-35, Gen.35:16-18, I Sam.17:43-44, I Sam.17:45-47, 50, Gen.27:11-13.

2) CURSES WITHOUT CAUSE WILL NOT COME: ACURSE IS NEVER EFFECTIVE WITHOUT A CAUSE. 
In other words, no curse will affect you unless you have done something to deserve it. Conditions for curses includes: (i) not listening to the voice of the Lord, (ii) not observing His commandments, (iii) not doing His commandments (iv) forsaking God, (v) going after other gods,(vi) breaking His covenant. Other causes are (vii) betrayal of friends (viii) rewarding evil for good (ix) being merciless (x) persecuting the poor and the needy (xi) taking advantage of the sorrowful (xii) loving to curse.
The following people are also under the curses of the Lord: (i) worshippers, (ii) people who bow down to any image, (iii) people who keep charms at home (iv) those who dishonour their parents (v) land thieves (vi) those who mistreat the helpless, (vii) those who cheat strangers, the fatherless or widows, (viii) those who have sex with animals, (ix) those who have sex with their step mothers or step-fathers, (x) those who have sex with their brothers or sisters, step-brothers or step sisters, (x) those who have sex with their father-in-law or mother-in-law, (xii) murders, (xiii) hired killers or thugs (xiv) those who break the law of God (xv) false preachers (xvi) enemies of God, (xvii) those who do not pay their tithes.
