Lesson 40: Wealth is no Sin

INTRODUCTION: We have seen in our previous studies that the love of money and not money itself is the root of all evil. The enemy is not wealth but greed. We have also seen that poverty is an enemy and it is not God’s will for us to be poor III John v2. In this study we want to see why Christian could be wealthy and still remain good Christians.

1. Now the Lord Himself is wealthy. Therefore, if having wealth makes one evil, then the Lord must be evil. But we know the Lord is not evil and so having wealth does not necessarily mean that one will be automatically evil – Exodus 19:5, Leviticus 25:23, I Chronicles 29:14, Psalms 24:1, Psalms 50:10, Psalms 89:11, Haggai 2:8.

2. Secondly, wealth can be a gift from the Lord. Surely, the Lord will not give evil things to his children – Genesis 39:2, Exodus 3:7-10, Deut. 30:9, I Samuel 2:7, I Chronicles 29:12, II Chronicles 31:21, Psalms 1:1-3, Eccl. 5:15, Hosea 2:8, II Corinthians 9:9, Philippians 4:19.

3. Moreover, the Lord has given great wealth to some godly people. People who have been declared by the Lord to be “blameless” and upright, fearing God and shunning evil: have also been trusted with very great wealth. Genesis 13:2, Genesis 26:12-14, Genesis 30:43, II Samuel 19:32, I Chronicles 29:28, I Chronicles 1:11-17, Job 1:3, Matthew 27:57.
So wealth need not be an evil thing but remember the rich fool. But there is a lot more to learn about wealth and poverty. So join us next in the next week and let us reach the bottom of this topic together
