LESSON TEXT-Ps.5:1-3

INTRODUCTION

One of the secrets of a successful Christian life is a life of close relationship with the master, Jesus Christ. One very good way to achieve this relationship is to be alone with God daily. Our memory verse speaks of Jesus Christ having a particular time, morning, when He prayed in a solitary place. Alone with God is different from family altar, but it is also called “Quiet Time”. It is a period and / or a place that is free from distractions and disturbances.

LESSON OUTLINE

  1. PURPOSE OF QUIET TIME
  2. HOW TO BE ALONE WITH GOD
  3. MATERIALS FOR QUIET TIME

LESSON CONTENT

A. PURPOSE OF QUIET TIME
The first major reason why Jesus Christ called His disciples is for fellowship, Mk. 3: 13.Quiet time should be a time to worship God because God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth, John 4: 23-24; Ps. 103: 1-5. It is a period to speak to God and hear from Him. Communication is a two-way process and God wants to speak to His children, Ps. 32: 8. This time is a good time to speak and hear from God concerning the good thoughts He has towards us, Jer. 29: 11. One good way God talks to His children is from His word,we therefore need this time to read, study and meditate on the word, Il Tim. 2: 15; Ps. 1: 1-3 Acts 17:11.It is a period to renew strength in the day, Isa. 40: 29-31.

B. HOW TO BE ALONE WITH GOD
Following the example of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, you need to select a time and a quiet place to be alone with God. Any time of the day is alright but most people prefer morning, Mk. 1: 35, to be the first appointment of the day before they get tired. However, Jesus wa alone with God in the morning and after feeding five thousand people He withdrew to be alone with God, Matt. 14: 21-23. This confirms the fact that it must be a suitable time for an individual. Being alone with God should not be limited to once a day; rather you can be in His presence alone as many times as possible in a day. We have written about the need to spend time to worship God. This could be followed by a Bible passage.

C. MATERIALS FOR THE QUIET TIME
The materials recommended include the following: the Bible, a notebook a writing material, and daily devotional book like Open Heavens to help in the daily study. It is better to read the listed Bible passage for the day before the body of the daily devotion. You can make your notes first on the Bible passage before going through the body of the daily passage. Note new lessons, instructions and characters to learn from as directed by God from the Bible passage.

CONCLUSION

God is willing to deposit new materials into your inner man and draw you nearer daily. However, Satan will attempt to discourage you, but you have to take a decision to be on the Lord’s side daily.
